My Home, Vietnam
Vietnam is a country of hope and inspiration.
Vietnam is the country that I was born in. I lived there on and off in the summers after coming to America at age 5. Life there is different.
The locals are awake at 5 a.m., brewing coffee, chopping ice or getting ready to open shop. Instead of buying a new plot of land, every Vietnamese person decorates their house into a place of work and service during the day. I often find myself craving street food and missing the aromatic smell of fresh phở every morning. Food there was affordable, a bowl of phở was only 50 cents. I cannot wait until summer comes to go back to my hometown again and enjoy everything Vietnam has to offer.
There are many people that haven't been to this amazing country, but I truly think that its worth visiting! Vietnam relaxes your mind and it opens your eyes to how the world operates outside of your own. People are so happy even though they wake up and work without break. Their happiness comes from the fact that they always have a welcoming community.
To visit the enchanting country, you must embrace adventure! There is a proverb that I'd like you to hear. "Đi một ngày đàng học một sàng khôn," which means "A day of traveling will bring a basketful of learning." As a motto for your vacation, always remember the importance of experiencing new things!
Population in Vietnam. In 2023, the total number of international visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached approximately 12.6 million.
1945 to Present. Vietnam, through a millenia of invasions and historical conflicts, has shaped itself into the beautiful culture that you see today.
Incentives to Visit
There's a plethora of reasons as to why you should come to Vietnam.
Attractions
Vietnam is an adventure.
Ironically, many people in Vietnam haven't traveled as much, although they have so many great attractions.
The north, Ha Noi, offers tradition and modernity, and the Halong Bay captivates you with its limestone islands. If you want to go Central, go to Hoi An or Hue, which showcase the ancient, imperial past of the country. The south, where I am from features busting city life in Ho Chi Minh City and southern countrylife in terraced rice fields of Sapa.
Cuisine
Vietnam has so many great dishes, but I'm biased!
In the heart of Vietnamese cuisine, Phở stands out with its rich broth, tender rice noodles, and a choice of beef or chicken, all garnished with fresh herbs. Equally renowned, Bánh mì offers a delightful fusion of flavors inside a crispy baguette, featuring an array of meats, tangy pickled vegetables, and zesty sauces. Not to be overlooked, the versatile spring rolls, available in fresh or fried versions, encapsulate a mix of shrimp, pork, and crisp vegetables, paired with a flavorful dipping sauce. Bún chả presents a harmonious blend of grilled pork, soft rice noodles, and herbs, complemented by a savory sauce. For something uniquely crispy, Bánh xèo combines shrimp and pork in a golden crepe, brimming with bean sprouts and herbs. Rounding off the culinary journey, Bún bò Huế spices up the palate with its lemongrass-infused beef noodle soup, enriched with a medley of herbs.
Affordability
Only have 1 U.S. dollar? That'll buy you three meals!
1 USD equals approximately 23,000 to 25,000 Vietnamese Dong, which presents a currency disparity, but it is a key attraction.
Vietnam is renowned for its affordability, offering budget-friendly options across food, accommodation, transportation, and attractions.
- Street food like phở and bánh mì provides delicious meals for just a few dollars, while a range of lodging options suits all budgets.
- Transportation is economical, with various choices from buses to motorbike rentals.
- Entry fees to tourist sites are low, making exploration accessible.
- Shopping also highlights Vietnam's cost-effectiveness, with great deals found in markets and shops.
